With the enhancement of comprehensive strength of our country, people’sliving standards improve obviously and car ownerships grow fast..Car bringconvenience to people’s lives, but, it also causes new problems,-trafficproblems. Nowadays all the major cities in China are facing the serious trafficproblems on the premise of investigation. The way which can effectively solvethe traffic problems is directly related to the long-term development of the city.Blindly to solve the traffic problems through massive increasing infrastructureconstructions such as roads is unscientific and unrealistic. Actually it is aneffective way to solve the traffic problems through integrating the use of trafficsignal control technology, optimizing the traffic signal timing control, andimproving the existing road traffic capacity. Urban trunk road, an importantpart of urban transportation, is an irreplaceable role. Therefore, researching theurban arterial traffic signal control is one of the effective methods to solve thecurrent traffic problems in all major cities in China.In this paper, choose Huangshan road, Hefei, as the specific research object,and diagnosis of the rationality of the trunk road intersection traffic signaltiming through the trunk road intersection traffic flow wave characteristicsanalysis. On the basis of these, to establish the main intersection traffic signaltiming optimization model which selects the minimum total vehicles delay ofthe main system as optimized goal. Intersection delay consists of main directionof the vehicle delay and branch direction of vehicle delay. The modelsynthetically took the branch direction vehicle delays and branch direction leftturn vehicles to the influence of the main team into account and avoided thedeficiency of the traditional green wave design. By taking the advantage ofgenetic algorithm, it optimized the main line of intersection traffic signal andobtained the results. In order to obtain the best optimized solution, the paperused the cycle time of control systems, the intersection of the green letter ratioand the phase difference between adjacent intersections parameters. Finally,comparing the simulation optimization results with the current Huangshan roadmain timing scheme, the results showed that the optimized timing scheme canobviously improve the total delay of the main vehicles.
