In early April2014, the running test of30,000tons combined locomotive on Datong-Qinhuangdao line succeeded, which created a new record of freight weight with respect to heavy-duty railways in China. The attention and investment to this line highlights the importance of heavy-duty railways transport. It relates to economic lifeline, is a vital factor to ensure that social production and people’s lives proceed normally. This is especially true for China, which is a vast and resource-rich country.Network control system is the core part of the locomotive, it plays a crucial role in many aspects, such as traction, braking, power, and communications. It typically includes control units with objectives of functions implement and communication networks for the purpose of information exchange. As one of the international standard fieldbus, WorldFIP has been widely used in the locomotive network control system with its unique advantages.In this paper, after in-depth study of the basic concepts and principles of locomotive network control system, a network control system main processing unit module was built based on PC104hardware platform and Vx Works embedded operating system, to achieve the basic simulation of the network control and communication functions.In the process of building embedded development platform, system trimming for virtual machine and PC104respectively, board support package production and operating system migration were accomplished. And the program Downloading and running test was done specific to hardware and software development environment.In the software implementation process, depth research was expanded in aspects of the structure of the network system, the function unit module, the bus arbitration scanning mechanism and the FIPV information transmission. FIPV communication architecture and its information frame was defined. Based on Vx Works multitasking system, it completed the work of the multi-functional design and implementation for the main processing unit.
