In the ship designing field, designers usually start a new ship designing from detailed analysis of ship owner’s design program. Design program is a summary of the requirements from ship owner, which generally includes the use of the ship, ship type, navigation area, the main technical performance, equipment, etc., and it reflects the demands of ship owner about ship. Under normal circumstances, ship owner needs to collect market conditions, shipping and operation information, and many other aspects information, and ship design program is determined after comprehensive analysis and demonstration of the main technical performance and the ship equipment.It exists in the field of ship design that it’s hard for requirements acquisition and analysis and it’s a time-consuming step of ship requirements mapping to the design process, and knowledge reuse is not enough and experience in the design cannot be inherited and other issues. In design process, designers’ reaction about requests of ship owner mostly rely on their own experience, professionalism and understanding of the design specifications in the designing, and it’s hard to be used in the design process with an effective integration. At the viewpoint of designing or construction enterprise, valuable experience in the design is lack of effective induction and consolidation, and it will lost along with the designer’s retire or quit, resulting a low efficiency of experience reuse and sharing.Design program is seen as the manifest needs of ship owner requirements, owner’s preferences, special needs, and such implicit demand are difficult to express in the design program. And the requirements of ship owner are throughout the entire ship construction, not only the owner will change the original intent, but also sometimes external factors or unforeseen circumstances make the ship requirements to change, until the completion of ship construction. Therefore, it helps to reduce unwanted changes to improve the efficiency of ship design and construction where the ship requirements are defined and ambiguous requirements are eliminated to obtain the ship requirements accurately in the design process to get fast mapping.In order to obtain the ship requirements accurately, and knowledge can be strongly supported in ship design process, the paper do lots of research on ship requirements and designing process on the basis of knowledge engineering technology. Firstly, the ship requirement index system was proposed on the basis of analyzing the ship requirement systematic, and studied the ship requirement intelligent acquisition system. Then, ship design knowledgeable model is proposed based on the analysis of the status of ship design, and the knowledge can be effectively integrated in the design process through this model, and the theoretical basis of the knowledge base systems are described.The knowledge base is built by database technology, and two ship designing methods are proposed based on hybrid reasoning and ANN technology, and the methods are proved to be reasonable by calculating the bulk carrier principal dimensions. Finally, the ship requirements acquisition and ship principal dimension designing prototype system based on knowledge is constructed that integrates requirements elicitation, design methods, knowledge management, database technology, and realize the research of this article through programming.Ship requirements intelligent acquisition system and the principal dimension designing study of ship is a new research of the requirements acquisition and analysis, mapping of the requirements to designing and the using of knowledge in designing process, and the research has some significance and reference value for the application of knowledge engineering techniques in ship area.
