Diesel engine design is a typical complex electromechanical system design, is the work process which simulates and analyzes the structure and performance parameters for diesel engine based on the requirements and purposes. It is a critical part of engine production and it fundamentally determines the quality, cost and market position of the engine production, Diesel engines have complex structures, consisting of lots of parts and technical content is high. The design covers computer-aided design, analysis, simulation, visualization and many other contents of mechanical engineering, fluid dynamics, combustion, structural dynamics, control theory, etc. The complexity of diesel design determines that the development of the diesel engine requires not only existing commercial software applications, but also the accumulation of traditional professional knowledge. What’s more, it involves professional knowledge of many fields and a wealth of experience in design, so the requirements of designer are very high.This paper established models of working process in cylinder of a diesel engine via using Matlab/Simulink and wrote the diesel engine structure drawing program with AutoLISP program language based on analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of Matlab/Simulink, Visual Basic (VB) and AutoCAD software; established the VB parameterization input interface to achieve the coupling of VB, AutoCAD and Matlab/Simulink software. Through VB interface, calling the AutoLISP drawing program nested inside AutoCAD and Matlab/Simulink software, the integration operation of cylinder working process calculation, analysis, and the CAD drawing of the body can be achieved. While taking advantage of the database technology to store and read the computed results and various parameters in order to facilitate the design staff to do statistical analysis for the huge engine structural parameters and simulation results. The powerful Matlab/Simulink scientific computing capabilities, parametric plotting function of AutoCAD, data management feature of database, simple interface writing function of VB and many other advantages can be full played. A diesel system is established, which has been applied in the process of modeling, simulation and diesel engine engineering drawing. It’s more efficient and much easier for engineers to analyze the diesel design and performance optimization.
