In modern automotive industry, the main direction of design is topology design and lightweight of structure. Put structural topology design theory and lightweight methods into the frame design, can get the new form, the light weight frame structure.In this paper, design the frame structure of FSC racing car by using the theory of continuum topology optimization. Combining with the competition rules, automotive ergonomics and frame layout in the design of frame, using the structural topology design a new form of frame. Then, optimization the circular pipe wall thickness size on the new frame. Through the analysis of strength, stiffness, vibration mode, the frame structure rising from the conceptual level to the practical application value level. From the whole process, the main conclusion as following:(1) Frame topology design method to be used in the initial stages of design. Compared with the traditional method, the frame design of topology doesn’t appear redundant structure, and the components reduced obviously, using the specific spatial region rational and effective.(2) In topology design process, increasing the constraint function values, the number of iterations of optimization design calculation convergence increases and convergence difficulty. Through iterative calculation, get the frame material optimal distribution nephogram in different constraint function. Description of structural topology design method can be used in design of frame structure.(3) Through calculation and analysis, verify the frame structure can satisfy the strength requirements in the six conditions. The bending and torsion stiffness of frame in reasonable design range. Description of frame model is rationality (4) Through research of the lightweight design of the frame, the weight of the frame reduced from29.9kg to23.4kg,the reduced rate is21.7%. Compared with the existing NUC racing car’s frame weight is32kg, the reduced rate is26.9%. To illustrate the research content in this paper is effective.In this paper, it’s the first time applied the structural topology design method to design the frame structure of FSC racing car, it also has a certain exploration and innovation. In frame topology design and lightweight research process, which can provide reference for the design of the car frame.
