With the continuous development of the vehicle driveline technology, thecharacteristics of compact structure, high power density and high torque-to-weight ratio havebecome the main development directions of vehicle driveline system. For passenger cartransmission products, gears are the key parts of them. So research on gears is the importantcomponent in the transmission product development process.At present, gear failure is the main form of the passenger car transmission failure,mainly reflected in the gear tooth impact fracture, bending fatigue damage and the gear toothsurface corrosion. So the study of gear strength is receiving more and more attention of thevehicle manufacturing industry. But at home, the research work on the gear strength isrelatively coarse, and could not form a complete set of development method. So it is difficultto meet the development demand of the vehicle transmission system.This article mainly takes research on gear strength, and puts forward a set of methods oftooth root bending stress calculation, testing, analysis and evaluation. The concrete researchcontents are as following:1. A review of research method on gear strength.Give a summary of the currentinternational widely used research methods of gear strength, and introduce them mainly fromthe analysis method and the test method. The analysis method includes the method forcalculating and analyzing based on the Hertz stress, the method for gear strength calculatingand testing based on international standard ISO6336and the finite element method. The testmethod includes the testing and research on gear root bending stress by using the resistancestrain gauge method.2. Gear strength mathematical model and finite element analysis.Study on the analyticalmethod of gear strength, and build the mathematical model for gear tooth root bending stressanalysis and calculation. While building the model, mesh generation and boundary conditionsetting and other steps are based on the finite element software ABAQUS. Then test the gearstrength.3. The tooth root bending stress test and analysis.Develop a method for testingtransmission gear tooth root bending stress, do research on the test principles and working process,and perform detailed analyses of the test results and the accuracy of the test.4. Evaluation method based on the test results.Based on the test results,find out the keyeffecting factors on gear strength,and investigate a new statistical analysis and evaluationmethod that takes into account the parameters of tooth pitch, tooth profile and toothdirection.And take effective control of the gear parameters.Finally, apply the test results to the product design, the control of processing andmanufacturing precision, and the reliability calculation evaluation. Preliminarily estimate theapplication effect. Thus we can guarantee the strength and reliability of the gear.
