Bon religion is an ancient religion in Tibet. It originated from the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau which is one of mankind’s birthplaces. The ancient Tibetan Bon culture nurtured there represents the pursuit of the ancient Tibetan as well as their understanding of natural forces. The Bon culture is a kind of concept which reflects the Tibetan’s cosmology and worldview. It’s also an important part constituting a mixed culture in Tibet today. According to historical records, with an ancestor named Mi Wo Xin Rao, the birthplace of Bon religion is Wo Molong Ren in Katao period, which is the Ali area in Tibet today. According to the analysis of the historical development of Bon religion, the development stages can be divided into three, namely the indigenous Bon stage, the incoming period and developmengt stage of Yong Chung in Tibet.In this paper the author analyzes several Bon monasteries surveyed and mapped in Nagqu area. Starting from an architectural view, the paper learns from basic theories of urban planning, sociology, archeology, Feng Shui, tourism and other related disciplines to reveal their common features and rules deeply from multi-aspects and multi-angles, in order to help preserve Bon monastic buildings better. At the same time, it reveals the development outlines of Tibetan religious traditions in Nagqu area and exploring their profound cultural connotations.There are totally seven chapters in this paper:The first chapter is the introduction part, mainly tells the background, purpose and meaning of the research, it also shows the paper’s framework as well as current research status at home and abroad; the second chapter introduces Nagqu history, geography, climate, culture and gives an overview of the origin and development of Bon religion; the Third chapter describes the general situaton of the development and distribution of Bon monastery and existing Katao architectural ruins and petroglyphs which are culturally relevant with Bon religion in Nagqu during Zhang Zhung period; the Fourth chapter consists of the site selection, building structures and construction materials of Bon monastery in Nagqu; the fifth chapter describes Bon monasteries aroud Jalan Yong Lake in Nyima County; the sixth chapter shows the general situation of Bon monasteries in Baqen Sect; In the last Chapter, the culture of Bon monastery and its own characteristics in Nagqu are discussed.There are more than66,000words as well as140pictures and charts in this thesis.
