Macpherson suspension has some unexampled advantages that other suspensions can’t exceed, such as light weight, tight configuration and flexible manipulation system. Based on a car’s basic parameters, this thesis optimized the car’s front Macpherson suspension, simulated the knuckle’s fatigue life and optimized its life. The main content is as follows:At the beginning of the thesis, it introduced some basic knowledge of suspension and virtual prototype, put forward the basic designing principles and ideas. According to the car’s parameters, the thesis designed the suspension’s basic parameter, based on which it designed the suspension’s three-dimensional model. So it could get the suspension structure’s key points. And using these key points it could build the simplified Macpherson suspension in ADMAS software. Thus it could compare the kinematic simulation and complaint simulation in ADAMS. And the result showed two simulation ways had significant deviations. So in order to reduce the deviations, the thesis used complaint simulation way in later simulation.After analyzing the wheel alignment parameters (kingpin inclination angle, caster angle, camber angle and toe angle) it got the conclusion that the suspension need to be optimized. Depending on the ADAMS/insight module, the thesis found the designing factors which affect these, alignment parameters, which was very important for optimizing the suspension and improving the car’s manipulation stability nature.To improve the suspension’s reliability nature, the thesis also made fatigue simulation for the suspension’s knuckle. Based on the multi-body theory, the thesis built the suspension’s rigid-flexible coupling model, simulated and analyzed the bumpy situation when the car’s traveling. By using the model neutral file, it recorded the knuckle’s stress information. Then after fatigue simulating in FATIGUE software, it could get the knuckle’s fatigue life cloud image. The thesis also optimized the knuckle and thus improved its fatigue life, which is critical for enhancing the suspension’s durability nature.
