Centrifugal pumps are rotating machinery of high energy consumption which are widely used. Pump units has a low operation efficiency and short service life due to the improper design, assembly, monitoring and operation. Therefore, research on the condition monitoring and optimal operation is especially important, which is the guarantee of the safety and efficient operation for pump units.First of all, condition monitoring system for pump units based on Labwindows/CVI is developed in this paper, including hardware design and software programming. This system consists of data acquisition module, performance monitoring module and vibration monitoring module. Performance monitoring module realizes the function of real-time parameter monitoring, data acquisition and storage, curve drawing of head, power and efficiency, report form of data and curve; vibration monitoring module has a function with real-time vibration parameter monitoring, data storage, data analysis and graph display, and the graph display consists of time domain graph, frequency domain graph and filtering graph. Then, performance monitoring module and vibration monitoring module are conducted respectively on the centrifugal pump test-bed and rotor test rig, which verifies the stability and reliability of the system. Finally, a mathematical model is established that the pressure, flow and start/stop count are the constraint conditions, and the minimum total shaft power of the pump units is the objective function on account of the low operational efficiency of the pump units, and the non-linear genetic algorithm is used to optimize the model.
