Assembly process is the most complex part throughout the whole production in the mechanical product manufacturing companies, this part involves the most extensive process and the quality of its operation has an important impact on the product quality and business efficiency.An important mean and key technology to ensure assembly lines’stability and reliability is to achieve online fault diagnosis, which can effectivelyimprove production efficiency. Based on the deep analysis and research on the keytechnologies of fault diagnosis during mechanical product assembly process, this paperbuilt online fault diagnosis platform for the mechanical assembly process. The mainresearch contents include the following sections:Firstly, the characteristics of mechanical product assembly process were analyzed,the faults occur in the assembly process were defined and classified, and clear faultdiagnostic tasks, then the need of fault diagnosis during assembly process was analyzedso that fault diagnosis system structure could be built for product assembly process.Secondly studied the fault data acquisition technology(human-computer interaction,RFID technology and OPC technologies) and multi-source heterogeneous faultinformation integration method which was based on XML so that to provide real-timeand valid data for online fault diagnosis. Based on this study, the theory and methods offault tree and expert systems was studied and the combination of these was applied infault diagnosis reasoning which constituted the intelligent fault diagnosis strategy.Finally, the method and technology in this paper was applied in an engine assemblyline by an automobile manufacturing company, and a prototype online fault diagnosissystem was developed. Through the application of this system in actual production, theeffectiveness of the methods in this paper were verified.
