Due to the lack of laboratory test environment, new online analysis and control systems developed can only be tested in the actual system. It would bring large risk because the new online control algorithm is always not mature. To provide the real-time application environment for various online analysis and control application softwares in laboratory, this paper presents and realizes an experimental simulation platform based on RTDS and EMS. The platform can be used for system-level closed-loop control experiments in laboratory, which overcomes the drawbacks brought by doing testing in actual grid.This article has done the research about the key technical to realize the platform. First of all, it is about the initialization of simulation ground state. RTDS simulation object is equivalent system, in order to provide the operating data and environment that is consistent with the actual system, it is necessary to provide the simulation ground state. Secondly, the terminal statutes are not compatible. Due to the diversity and complexity of the statute, coupled with the subtle differences between various manufactures, it is hard to achieve compatibility. Thirdly, RTDS simulator can not be occupied for a long time. RTDS is expensive and has wide range of applications. It is necessary to consider the operation of the platform without RTDS simulator. Fourthly, the time delay that is brought by transmitting data based on WAN can not be ignored. Objectively it requires time delay that is consistent with the actual grid to do data transmission in the laboratory.The experimental simulation platform that had developed is composed of the following several functional modules:RTDS online module, statute conversion module and real-time data storage control module. RTDS online module is used to refresh the state of the RTDS simulation model. Statute conversion module realizes bi-directional data flow between RTDS and EMS with the help of RTDS/GTNET_DNP card. Real-time data storage control module is used to control time delay manually.This article has completed the experimental simulation platform’s development, and has solved the key technologies. Testing on the experimental simulation platform has been made base on the Mengxi’s equivalent model. And it has confirmed the accuracy and validity of the experimental simulation platform that developed.
