Recently, worldwide terrorist attacks have become increasingly rampant and the natural disasters such as earthquake and tsunami occur frequently. These disasters which caused tens of thousands of people lost their lives and a lot of structures collapse have brought tremendous casualties and property losses to our society and that made progressive collapse structural problems win the wide attention of engineering field. The progressive collapse of structure is defined as the spread of an initial local failure from element to element, eventually resulting in the loss of bearing capacity for main structure and the collapse of a disproportionately large part of it. The occurrence of the progressive collapse of building structures would cause catastrophic consequences, so the assessment of the ability to resist progressive collapse is very significant.Firstly, the dissertation introduced the research review of reinforced concrete frame structure to resist progressive collapse and analyzed the evaluation criteria system of the existing building structures to resist progressive collapse and the existing problems. Secondly, the failure patterns of reinforced concrete beams and columns were analyzed to give the corresponding functions and the JC checking point method was used to analyze the factors affecting the seismic reliability of reinforced concrete beams. Once more, the calculation method of failure impact factor was proposed and the concrete frame structure was analyzed to study the distribution of beam and column’s failure impact factors and the importance of each component in the anti-progressive collapse was compared. Finally, the progressive collapse mechanism was analyzed by dismantling the internal column and the side column and the failure probability index by combining the reliability index and the component failure impact indicator measuring the probability of the occurrence of progressive collapse of the RC structure caused by a member and its calculation steps were proposed. What’s more, the evaluation method of the failure probability index was given out.
