It is well known that RC frame-shear wall structure may produce various failure modes under the effect of earthquake. And the quality of the failure modes is directly related to life and property. Therefore, to form a reasonable failure mode is the core task of seismic fortification. At the same time, how to evaluate the rationality of the failure modes has become a top priority.This paper summarizes the research of the structures' failure modes under earthquake from scholars at home and abroad, and discusses the main factors which influence the failure modes of frame-shear wall structures. Then propose an evaluation method for failure model based on economy and safety. Establish 4 models according to the different stiffness characteristic value and use Perform-3D to carry on the elastic-plastic time history analysis. Through the analysis results, use evaluation indexes qualitatively to evaluate the safety and economy of the failure modes. Then use comprehensive evaluation method to evaluate the rationality of the RC frame-shear wall structures' failure mode. Finally, explore the influence of ground motion intensity on the evaluation results by adjusting the amplitude of ground motion. The results of this evaluation confirm the applicability of the evaluation method.Based on the above research, the main conclusions of this dissertation are as follows:(1) Proposing a kind of evaluation method which can effectively evaluate the safety,economy and rationality of the failure modes.(2) While using the evaluation method to evaluate the failure modes, the evaluation result is consistent with the current understanding of the failure mode. This verifies the feasibility of the evaluation method.(3) Based on the method proposed in this paper, evaluate the seismic failure modes of RC frame structures with different designs. Discussed the relationship between the stiffness characteristic value and the evaluation indexes. This verifies the applicability of the evaluation method.The main innovations of this paper are as follow:(1) Proposing a well-developed evaluation method to evaluate the rationality of the RC frame-shear wall structures' failure modes, this considers the safety and economy at the same time.(2) Through the evaluation method, string up structure design, failure mode and evaluation method, so that engineers could use this evaluation method to guide the structure design.(3) Researched the influence of different stiffness characteristic value on the failure mode, and proposed suggestions that how to control the failure mode by adjusting the stiffness characteristic value.
