This paper attempts to introduce motion scheme design of gear train to the research on issue of combination between for complex gear train units based on the ideology of unit combination. Moreover, the motion scheme of the fixed input and output shaft for complex gear train was established with the above method.First of all, according to the constitution of complex gear trains, this essay analyzed and summarized the basic element and complex element. Then, the input and output motion characteristics of basic element was analyzed and the motion equation of state, describing the motion transformation of the basic element between input motion state vector and output motion state vector. Finally, the transformation from the process of motion feature’s transformation of basic element to abstract mathematical model was realized.Secondly, the constraints of unit combination could be confirmed according to the connection process of unit assemble and the function requirement of gear train. The basic combination of gear unit was provided by the process of motion transformation in unit combination. The mathematical model of the complex gear train could be obtained with the combination calculation of mathematical model in gear unit.Next, map the motion transformation matrix of a gear train to the axis direction transformation matrix, then simplifies decomposition problem of motion transformation matrix to the decomposition of axis direction transformation matrix. Establish logical AND, logical OR decomposition algorithm for the axis direction transformation matrix and realize the motion matrix decomposition rules based on the unit combination. All these things provide a possibility for the computer-aided kinematic conceptual design.Finally, establish kinematic synthesis steps for the kinematic conceptual design of complex gear trains. The kinematic synthesis examples of compound units are given to illustrate the practicability of the steps and as a result the configuration of compound units formed by multiple basic units are obtained.
