In the southwest region of China, there are many large-scale potential landslides in the reservoir area with complex geological conditions. After the reservoir has been built, these potential landslides will be in an alternate state of wetting and drying for a long tine under the influence of water fluctuation caused by reservoir operation, which can decreases the anti-sliding stability of itself, while it is possible for these potential landslides to slid into the reservoir under the earthquake, heavy rain or violent water fluctuation. Once these landslides lose its stability and slid into the reservoir, it will have bad effects on the reservoir operation and the huge landslide surge it caused will have strong impact on the dam, which leads to the dam-breake or surge overflow the dam and seriously threaten the security of people’s lives and wealth near the landslides area and downstream area.At present, the dam is designed according to the static load and seismic load. There is no more attention paid to the dam’s ability to resist shock for the relevant calculation is very complicated and the relevant theory is imperfect. Different combination of high head surge pressure and ground motion can increase the dam’s crash risk. In order to explore damage of concrete gravity dam subjected to combined action of earthquake and landslide surge, major work of this paper includes three respects as follows:(1) This paper focus on the dam damage situation, it assumes that the dam built on rigid foundation and pays no attention to the dam-foundation interaction. The reasonable surge pressure model confirmed by test is analyzed and chosen, the model of Koyna dam is selected as a calculation object, the dam body material use the plastic damage constitutive model of concrete.(2) The surge occurs in before and after shock even in the process of earthquake causes the superposition of earthquake and surge pressure, this paper calculates the response of dam under the action of different seismic peak and surge pressure combined at different moments.(3) Having study on responses of dam under overload surge and overload earthquake.
