With the continuous development of city construction, the traditional overhead lineshave been eliminated, the power cable has increasingly become a trend, but due to the increasing number of the residents of the area, the buried cable to complex, cable route map the existing preservation are not perfect, caused when the cable fault occurred, how to find the fault point become an important problem. At present, the cable fault detection according to the following steps:first, by type of instrument to probe the nature of fault, judge fault, in order to detect the point as the center, to determine the detection radius, finally accurately locate the fault point.In this paper, the reasons for failure to produce cable, the type of cable faults in-depth analysis of several fault detection method now widely used were described in detail, and anal yzed their advantages and disadvantages. On the basis of precise positioning method is propo sed using pulse-echo method cable fault. It enables accurate judgment in complex terrain, and noise, is a direction of power cable fault location research.The key technology of this fault location system of this study, in terms of hardware using SCM as a development platform,, use MCU will send and receive pulse signals are processed to send a high-frequency signal FPGA core, and then realized through software design faults points ranging, positioning and other functions.
