Car gradually becomes an important part in daily life and work with the rapid development of economy and society, and people request more and more about cars. We hope it more powerful, and better economy and reliability. Automobile engine compartment cooling performance affects the reliability of the running vehicle’s economy, power and emissions performance. Aerodynamic characteristics of the car’s overall performance in the car also has a pivotal role, with the worsening energy crisis, people want cars outflow field through further research to improve overall performance. With the recent energy and environmental issues become increasingly prominent, how to ensure good heat dissipation and reduce the engine compartment car drag these two areas has become a difficult problem to solve for auto companies.Hyundai research and analysis are two major methods in the present study on the passenger compartment thermal comfort. Test method always takes a long time, and the information we could get from it is limited.So that we can’t get detail data of flow field in the car from test. With the rapid development of computer technology, the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method is more widely used in process of automobile’s development. In this paper, computational fluid dynamics of the car grille opening and closing were calculated and analyzed in detail the data obtained in the engine compartment and vehicle outflow field, the analysis of the grille opening and closing different circumstances for aerodynamic drag and engine compartment cooling impact and deal with the problems were optimized. The contents are as following:First, create a three-dimensional model of the car and make the appropriate calculation of the required pre-treatment and divided grid, using fluid dynamics software STAR-CCM+analog simulation.Secondly, make the different levels of the grille opening and closing car drag effect on the simulation, the results of the analysis suggest improvements grille opening and closing of the impact of different positions and sizes of wind resistance, combined with the previously obtained.Then, make different grille opening and closing the engine compartment heat dissipation extent simulate, analyze different grille opening and closing the position and size of the engine compartment cooling influence.Finally, reference to the grid technology initiative to close the application in a real car, put forward the initiative to close the grill improvement programs to achieve energy savings improve vehicle economy.
