High speed machining technology can significantly improve the production efficiency. And it depend on the high speed motor. But when the motor running at high speed, rotorstress will increase, that lead rotor easily to be damaged. This paper studied the mechanicalstrength and electromagnetic performance of the axial flux permanent machines (AFPM) andradial flux permanent machines (RFPM). Power frequency of high speed permanentmachines (HSPM) always high, and natural frequency of shaft that has small diameter isclose to the power frequency. That makes machines easier to resonance. At present amorphous alloy material mainly used in AFPM. First, AFPM of15kW,30000revolutions per minute with double stator and single rotor is studied. The AFPM withsegmented rotor structure that is suitable for high-speed operation is studied in this paper.Ananalytical model is built to evaluate the mechanical strength of this type of rotor.Finiteelement method is used to study the influence law of rotor mechanical strength underdifferent pole arc coefficients, flange thickness of rotor, and number of segments of eachrotor pole.Meanwhile, the influence law of electromagnetic performance of AFPM underdifferent number of segments of each rotor pole is studied. The research work provides areference for the development of high-speed AFPM.Secondly, for RFPM this paper studied influence law of enclosure stress under differentinterference. This paper calculated the rotor stress with finite element method. Then, thepermanent magnet is segmented along the circumference direction to increase the number ofmagnetic bridge, so that the maximum stress of magnetic bridge is decreased. Themechanical strength and electromagnetic performance of rotor are analyzed in the case ofpermanent magnet without segmentation, divided into2segments and divided into3segments. At the same time, paper studied the influence of electromagnetic performanceunder different slots and poles. Finally, the paper studied the existing shaft, then designed a corresponding shaft for themotor, and studied the natural frequency of the shaft.
