With the development of science and technology, there are more and more high power equipment in the information technology industry, power system industry,the transportation industry and so on. There is a lot of useless heat will be created in working process of these devices. The performance of equipment will be damaged if the useless heat cannot be taken away. Therefore, there is a higher request for heat dissipation of equipment. Water-cooled heat sink has more and more application because of the advantages of high cooling efficiency, low noise and small size. So, it is important to testing the performance of water-cooled heat sink. However, in the electronics industry, the test system for water-cooled heat sink which already developed could just test the properties of flow rate-flow resistance and flow rate-thermal resistance. The influence of inlet water temperature on the performance of heat sink wasn’t considered. In this paper:(1) A water-cooled heat sink was regarded as the research object. The control of inlet water temperature, of inlet water flow and of the simulated heat capacity was analyzed. Anew test system for water-cooled heat sink was developed.(2) A water-cooled heat sink was researched by numerical simulation. Comparing with the result of simulation and test, the outlet temperature, flow resistance and thermal resistance from both simulation and test are nearly equal. Therefore, the model of water-cooled heat sink was proved to be correct. The equivalent heat source was analyzed by simulation. The adiabatic condition and uniform temperature condition of this numerical model was studied. It shows that the design of heat resource can improve the measurement accuracy of thermal resistance.(3) The experiment on a water-cooled heat sink was done by using this performance test system for water-cooled heat sink. Firstly, with the different heating power, the relation of flow rate and flow resistance, the inlet water temperature and flow resistance were analyzed. Secondly, the relation of flow rate and thermal resistance,the heating power and thermal resistance were analyzed. Finally, the factors of affecting water-cooled heat sink’s surface temperature were investigated. It showsthat flow rate is the most important factor of affecting flow resistance and thermal resistance. As heating power is changed, the flow resistance and thermal resistance are almost unchanged. With the increasing of inlet water temperature, the heat sink’s surface temperature and heating resource’s surface temperature will be raised.(4) The uncertainty of performance test system for water-cooled heat sink was evaluated on the rated condition. Results show that the uncertainty of flow resistance is 2.9%, and the uncertainty of transient thermal resistance is 2.8%.
