Automobile suspension system plays a vital role in the ride performance and handling stability of vehicle, especially, the requirement of people for the comfort of the vehicle has increasingly higher, so improving the performance of the suspension has becomes an important issue for researchers. As an important part of the automobile, the excellent performance of shock absorber played a decisive role in the performance of the suspension. As a new form of shock absorber, pure pneumatic shock absorber has the unique and excellent performance as far as the traditional shock absorber.Firstly, the history of development and the present situation and trend of research at home and abroad is introduced in this paper. As the object of study in the paper, pure pneumatic shock absorber is led to. Then the basic principles of pure pneumatic shock absorber is introduced, it is conducted contrastive analysis with the conventional hydraulic shock absorber. By the theoretical analysis, the use of relevant knowledge and the appropriate assumptions, the mathematical model of the pure pneumatic shock absorber has been deduced. The simulation model of the shock absorber is established in matlab, and through a number of comparative simulation, the various factors which influence the performance of shock absorber can be gotten. Finally, through the bench test for the test-bed of shock absorber, the correctness of the mathematical mode and simulation calculation for the shock absorber has been verified.As a new form and national patent product which has completely independent intellectual property, the principle of pure pneumatic shock absorber which is the research object in this paper is different from the conventional hydraulic shock absorber, and some of the shortcomings of traditional hydraulic shock absorber are improved. Pure pneumatic shock absorber has a good damping effect and the excellent performance of suspension when it matches appropriate spring. Meanwhile, not only has pure pneumatic shock absorber the simple structure, low cost, small size and flexible space layout, but also it can be applied to a variety of models. This paper derivates the pure pneumatic shock absorber scientific theoretically, and has proven its excellent performance. In the experiment, the reliability of this shock absorber’s performance was further verified by the test of shock absorber test bench. It is foreseeable that pure pneumatic shock absorber,once put into use in practice, there must be vast market prospect.
