Cutter is an important tool of the tunnel boring machine’s cutter-head and its working environment is very complex.Cutter’s vibration directly affect the rock-breaking efficiency and cutter’s service life. The research on the mechanical characteristics analysis for disc cutters acts an important role in the designing of efficient and high-performance hob,cutter-head and the propulsion systems of the tunnel boring machine.This paper is under the auspices of The National Natural Science Foundation of China "Shield cutter and geotechnical dynamic interaction mechanism and cutter system design theory(E51105048)", mainly completed the work as follows:1. According to the information provided by an enterprise, using the PRO/E built the 3D model of disc cutter which is improved and not and Imported the 3D model to the ANSYS, established the finite element model of the disc cutters.Analyzed the disc cutter’s working principle and stress, selected the disc cutter’s normal and partial wear working conditions according to the actual situation, determined the stress under the two working conditions of disc cutter.Analyzed the statics of different disc cutters’ finite element model and obtained the disc cutter’s stress and strain nephograms.These analyze data proved that the improved disc cutter’s stress and strain is little than the unimproved and partial worn disc cutter.2. Analyzed the modal of different disc cutter’s finite element model, obtained the disc cutter’s natural frequency and modal shape.The results shown that the normal disc cutter’s natural frequency is higher than the previous disc cutter and partial worn disc cutter,this indicates that the normal disc cutter does not easily occur resonance at a relatively low frequency.3. On the basis of static and modal analysis, performed a harmonic analysis about the disc cutter’s finite element model. The harmonic response analysis’ results shown that the response displacement of the improved disc cutter is less than unimproved disc cutter and partial worn disc cutter, instructions that response displacement occurred in resonance of normal disc cutter is less.
