As an important part of smart grid, intelligent substation is the foundation of constructing smart grid. With the development of network communication technology and intelligent electrical equipment, intelligent substation has been widely popularized and applied. Communication network is the main carrier of information interaction and sharing in intelligent substation, and its safe and stable operation determines the reliable operation of electrical power system. It is important to study on communication network of intelligent substation.This paper analyses the technical points of IEC61850 firstly and emphasizes on hierarchical structure of substation automation system, object oriented modeling technology, configuration language of substation and communication message and classification in the basis of IEC61850 communication standards.This paper combines with the present situation of Baoding power grid and the general situation of Anxin 220 kV substation, and with the reference of primary system, provides the design scheme of substation automation system and its corresponding device configuration. This paper provides four design schemes of process layer and spacer layer and determines two design schemes as the recommended schemes of Anxin substation. Aiming at the disadvantages of the merging unit of process equipment and intelligent terminal device during application, such as difficulty in modifying the parameters and managing the related regulation software, this paper designs Process equipment modification and configuration tool and introduces the main function interface of the software.This paper studies on main content of network monitoring technology, analyses the detection principle of GOOSE message, SV sampling value message and MMS message and the structure and function of communication online monitoring system. This paper takes NSAR500 online monitoring system of communication as an example to analyze and summarize its situation of application in Anxin 220 kV substation.
