The Context In Garden Works Of Peter Walker

This paper researched "the context in garden works of Peter Walker". In order to comprehensively grasp Peter Walker’s works, this paper illustrated this topic through the influence of Japanese zen concept and French classical garden on Peter Walker, the expression of the context in garden works, as well as the presentation method of context in Peter Walker’s works. Moreover, this paper also researched the context, the concept and technique of expression in works of Peter Walker, and concluded the unique features of his landscape works. This is intended to create a perfect combination of contemporary landscape design with the context application, and study the expression patterns in modern minimalist garden works.This paper researched this topic through the following methods:(1) Consult a great number of literatures about the landscape context, Peter Walker and his French classical gardens, the buddhist conception, context and landscape architecture, and then continue with this topic on the basis of an integration of these materials.(2) Conduct an analysis on the minimalist garden works of Peter walker, and understand the art processing of context in his works. Meanwhile, study design works of Peter Walker in foreign countries, and fully experience the context in his works.(3) Finally, conclude the research contents based on the integrated information, and achieve the purpose of the research.This paper achieved the following conclusions through study and analysis:(1) From the creative ideas expressed in the works of Peter Walker. The garden works of Peter Walker have been deeply influenced by French classical gardens, the modern art of the 20th century, and the Oriental gardens with Zen philosophy. His works internally own tremendous momentum and rational thought, and implicitly express his concept of harmony and unity at the same time. His landscape works have been consistently expressed in a concise and natural way, and almost all of his works can earn a good reputation for their conciseness. From the aspect of Oriental zen art, Peter Walker was deeply influenced by Japanese classical gardens. He extracted the essence from the Japanese garden works, and made his gardens present a mysterious and pure atmosphere.(2) This paper analyzed the garden works of Peter Walker mainly from the type of landscape context, expression and representation pattern, techniques, and so on. The garden topic of Peter Walker is to express the context and its inner spirit through making the context adaptive to each element of the garden. Peter walker combined two different contexts of the east and west in his own garden works, so as to reveal his unique ideas, and produce a natural and concise form of "new garden". In people’s imagination, the space environment is the location, while the time stands for the occasion. People would generate a sense of place when they enter into this location and occasion. The formation of the sense of place requires spirits to transform into specific physical forms. Landscape architecture covers a very wide range of fields, so how to apply the context in landscape architecture is worthy of our thought.
