Power has an irreplaceable role in the modern society. The power factor plays an important role in power system’s energy utilization rate. The improvement of power factor has an important significance, which can improve the efficiency of power producing equipment and reduce the power loss on the line transmission and improve the benefit of the enterprise and so on. Asynchronous motors are widely used in industry, and they are energy-consuming products with low power factor. Motors’ power consumption accounts for about 75% of industry’s total power consumption. Therefore, improving the power factor of motor is a way of improve the power factor of power network. This paper presents a method to improve power factor of asynchronous motor. This paper introduces a method to improve power factor of the open winding motor. The motor model is built according to their actual measurement data, and verified the correctness of the motor model with MATLAB. The structure is analysised and mathematical model of open winding induction motor with reactive power compensation device based on the instantaneous power theory is deduced in this paper. Then a control method of reactive power compensation device is designed. The simulation with control method is made with the MATLAB/SIMULINK software. Simulation results show that the power factor is close to its theoretical value of 1, and the simulation verified the feasibility of the reactive power compensation method. Finally, the hardware system is designed based on DSP TMS320F28335 system. So does the three-phase PWM rectifier, trigger circuit, current measurement circuit, voltage measurement circuit, power modules, protection circuit and so on. The methods of program is that the idea of controlling the stator’s reactive current to zero. Experimental result shows that the motor factor is improved with the reactive power compensation method, and the method is feasible in practice...
