10kV switchgear is an important equipment in distribution network. The survey found that one of the reasons for the failure of the switchgear is partial discharge. Partial discharge can indicate deterioration of insulation in the equipment. If we can detect partial discharge of switchgear when it is at runtime, we can grasp the insulation condition of the equipment. It is beneficial to the maintenance of switchgear and the security of the power system. Partial discharge live detecting methods of switchgear mainly include High Frequency Current Test detection, UHF Electromagnetic Wave detection, Ultrasonic detection and Transient Earth Voltage detection. Although these detection methods have been more widely used, but they are not yet mature. Domestic and foreign scholars are also still doing related research. In this paper, theoretical analysis, simulation, experimental and other ways of studying will be used to do the research about the detecting ways and adaptabilities of switchgear partial discharge live detecting.It’s a very important guiding significance for switchgear partial discharge UHF detection to study UHF electromagnetic wave propagation characteristics of partial discharge switchgear. In this paper, propagation characteristics in switchgear and switchgear crevice of UHF electromagnetic wave produced by switchgear partial discharge, and the electric field intensity distribution, etc. are analyzed based on the currents radiation theory, the electromagnetic wave diffraction by obstacle theory and rectangular waveguide theory. After that, CREO2.0software is used to build10kV switchgear cable compartment model. And the model is imported into electromagnetic simulation software XFDTD6.0. By setting the partial discharge source and observation points of switchgear in the simulation software, the simulation research of UHF electromagnetic wave propagation characteristics of partial discharge switchgear can be realized. The simulation results obtain UHF electromagnetic wave propagation characteristics of the switching cabinet crevice and the impact of different partial discharge source locations on field strength in gap. Finally, relevant proposals of the switchgear UHF partial discharge detection method are put forward based on the conclusions of the simulation results.In order to study the sensitivity of four kinds of switchgear partial discharge live detecting methods to four different kinds of typical defect, related experiments are conducted in high-voltage laboratory of Shanghai Jiaotong University. In this paper, four kinds of partial discharge switchgear typical defect models are designed and produced. And four kinds of partial discharge detection methods adaptability experiments are conducted by the choice of four common switchgear partial discharge live detecting sensors of the State Grid Corporation and other laboratory instruments, obtaining four kinds of partial discharge detection methods sensitivities and four typical defects frequency distribution. The conclusions have certain guiding significance for partial discharge live detecting of switchgear of other voltage levels.
