Electrical energy is a clean, convenient, easy to transport and control, and with a simple means efficiently converted to other energy secondary energy. In today’s society, electrification has become a measure of a country’s degree of industry, agriculture, national defense, science and technology and an important indicator of living standards. As the economy continues to develop, the power load continues to grow, energy bottlenecks and environmental issues become increasingly prominent. To save energy and protect the environment of the dual purpose of achieving low-cost electricity services, DSM will more and more become a hot topic in today’s era under the background. DSM is the main content of the end-user load management, load average use of electricity, improve end-use energy efficiency, and achieve integrated resource planning. California electricity market crisis, the US Blackout, India’s "7.30" blackouts and other accidents, more prominent increase simply reflects the generation side power supply capacity is insufficient to resolve the situation, but also that the DSM is to ensure that electricity important means of industrial safety, stable and sustainable development.This paper carries out the following several aspects:1. Firstly, the background and significance of the subject, describes the experience of research and development status of the United States, Canada, Britain, South Korea and China’s demand-side management (Demand Side Management, DSM).2. Secondly, starting from the basic concept of DSM, explains the content and significance of specific DSM and DSM management planning and potential analysis.3. Commonly used for power system load index were introduced, selected examples of local load characteristic analysis, according to industry characteristics, typical of the industry for several load characteristics were analyzed and summarized, derived load characteristics.4. According to DSM implementation experience at home and abroad, based on the load classification, considering the electricity market economy requirements to load shifting time, peak load shifting, clipping the three main load management as a means, namely the establishment of a variety of mathematical model of load management, thereby establishing the overall optimal load management model, and through data analysis of specific cases, and ultimately get an optimized, smooth power load curve, improved load rate indicators proved this article model can optimize and manage the load, the electric power industry to improve existing electricity tensions have important significance to the development of the power system.
