Recently, the power industry in China is developing rapidly, and the transmission network is gradually constructed by UHV and EHV technology. Power loss is unavoidable during the long-distance power transmission. Because of the environmental problem emerges increasingly in nowadays, how to not affect the normal power transmission and reduce transmission line loss, emissions during power generation and the cost of power transmission, has become a popular topic in power industry.The wire selection is an important subject in high voltage transmission. There are so many deficiencies in traditional one-time investment as the main factor in economical evaluation of power transmission. However, those problems could be solved by using life cycle theory in transmission line design.The concept of life cycle design is the application of life cycle theory in the field of engineering design. This paper relies on the optimized design of a 750kV transmission line project, guided by the life cycle theory, analysis from the shortage and defects in traditional transmission line engineering design, demonstrated the feasibility and necessity of the application of life cycle theory in transmission line engineering. The design of high-voltage transmission line engineering is carried out by using the method of life cycle cost management. This paper studies the factors that affect the wire selection, analysis the life cycle cost of ultra high voltage transmission project, established a universal and reasonable wire selection scheme. Finally, the paper analysis simulation of Hami 750kV transmission line project for instance. After determining the feasible four wire scheme, the paper calculates and analysis the economic performance of the energy saving lead and the conventional conductor in the whole life cycle by the minimum of annual cost and then selects the best wire scheme. It can not only ensure the power supply requirements and safety and reliable operation but also the lowest life cycle cost.Through the research of the whole transmission line engineering design, the application value of energy saving wire in transmission engineering is proved. It is also provides a reference for the application of the whole life cycle theory and life cycle cost management for transmission design.
