In recent years, many factors have been restricting a further development of the power grid. For example, the old lines can not meet the demand of users, the new lines can only allow narrow line corridors, the old lines are difficult to rebuild, etc. With the development of industry and agriculture and the vigorous development of animal husbandry, although West Inner Mongolia Power Grid area is sparsely populated and the line corridors are relatively bounteous, West Inner Mongolia Power Grid also encounters similar problems.In order to improve the transport capacity, for which we need to solve the problem of low transmission capacity and rapid increase of load, West Inner Mongolia Power Grid began to promote the use of aluminum conductor composite core(ACCC). The wire has massive features, like high strength, light weight, high elastic modulus, small linear expansion coefficient, small sag, small line loss, large carrying capacity and corrosion resistance.In the older design of overhead line, most line wires are steel core aluminum strand, which leads to the lack of the experience in ACCC design. Therefore, the research of ACCC is of great significance in the confirmation of reasonable design scheme, and design experience accumulation.This paper first introduces the development and features of ACCC. Through the comparison between ACCC and steel core aluminum stranded wire, there is an illustration of physical and structural features. Then the economic indicators of ACCC surface, by comparing the economic parameters of the designs..Combined with Characteristic analysis and example design, the paper summarizes the exact problems encountered in the process of design and the corresponding solution. On that basis, instructional conclusion of ACCC design is drawn. What’s more, through the characteristic analysis and economic analysis, the application scope of ACCC in West Inner Mongolia Power Grid as well as the matters needing attention are given.
