At present, the power system is lack of var compensation, and most compensation methods for the compensation devices are not good enough to meet the requirement of compensation for power system. With the rapid development of power electronics and theory of control, the static var generator(SVG) has become a hot research topic in the field of power electronics. Compared with the majority of traditional compensation devices, SVG has some technical advantages, and in recent years, the study of SVG has been very active. However, the existing results of SVG in low voltage and small capacity have not been abundant. This paper proposes an experiment scheme of low voltage static var generator realized by the power electronic device(Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor)IGBT.Based on the the physical significance and detriment of reactive power, firstly this paper explains the significance of this subject. Secondly, this paper introduces the reactive power compensation development history, comparing SVG with the traditional reactive power compensation device, and the superior performance of SVG is rapid response and high accuracy. Thirdly, this paper analyzes SVG in all directions, such as the system structure, working principle, and mathematical model, and presents the principle of several key technologies including the current detection and the control algorithm. Finally, several reactive current detection methods based on the instantaneous reactive power theory are analyzed and compared, and this paper adopts the direct current control strategy under dq axis.In this paper, a numerical simulation is built to verify the feasibility of Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation(SVPWM). Then the main circuit, sample module, power supply and other hardware circuits are designed according to the circuit theory. Finally, control programs are written to test various modules by SEED-DEC2812 development board, and the compensation experiments are carried out.
