The function of irrigation and drainage could be realized for bidirectional pumping stations, which can adjust the operation mode according to the change of water level in inner and outer river. The bidirectional pumping station includes four types:the bidirectional pumping station consisted of one pumping station and four control sluices, the bidirectional pumping station consisted of unidirectional pump and bidirectional conduits, the bidirectional pumping station consisted of bidirectional pump and unidirectional conduit, the bidirectional pumping station consisted of unidirectional pump and unidirectional conduit. References could be provided for bidirectional pumping station to choose the reasonable type of pumping station in planning and design stage, through the comprehensive comparison between the bidirectional pumping station(the bidirectional entirely tubular pumping station) consisted of unidirectional pump and unidirectional conduit installed entirely tubular pumpand the other three types of bidirectional stations.The contents included are as follows:(1) A new type of the bidirectional entirely tubular pumping station was researched, including the operation mode.(2) Based on the objective of the optimum hydraulic design for the inlet and outlet conduits, the numerical computation of three dimensional turbulent flow for the inlet and outlet conduits of the bidirectional entirely tubular pump system is finished, besides, the numerical computation of three dimensional turbulent flow for the interior flow of the bidirectional entirely tubular pump system is finished.(3) Comprehensive comparisons were carried out between four types of bidirectional pumping stations, and the comprehensive comparisons include operation mode, hydraulic performance, pumping unit structure, installation and overhaul, civil construction investment, and pumping unit investment etc.The main conclusions are as follows:(1) The match usage of entirely tubular pump reversed by rail and inlet and outlet conduits with the same shapes line. It settled the problem that it is hard for pump to reverse wholly and quickly. Besides, it conveniently realized the conversion between the function of lift irrigation, lift drainage, artesian diversion and artesian drainage for the bidirectional entirely tubular pumping station.(2) The conduits optimized of the bidirectional entirely tubular pumping station have the advantages of straight conduits and excellent hydraulic performance under either positive or negative operation conditions.(3) With the advantages of simple operation mode, excellent hydraulic performance, more convenient installation, simple structure,high reliability as well as less civil construction and pumping unit investment, the bidirectional entirely tubular pumping station has the function of lift irrigation, lift drainage, artesian diversion and artesian drainage, however, the electromotor efficiency is low and it is difficult to overhaul.(4) With the advantages of excellent hydraulic performance as well as convenient installation and overhaul, the bidirectional pumping station consisted of one pumping station and four control sluices has the function of lift irrigation, lift drainage, artesian diversion and artesian drainage, but the operation mode is complex and it costs more civil construction investment.(5) With the advantages of good hydraulic performance as well as convenient installation and overhaul, the bidirectional pumping station consisted of unidirectional pump and bidirectional conduits has the function of lift drainage, artesian diversion and artesian drainage, however, the operation mode is complex and it costs a lot of civil construction investment.(6) With the advantages of simple operation mode, the bidirectional pumping station consisted of bidirectional pump and unidirectional conduit cannot realize the function of artesian diversion and artesian drainage, besides, the hydraulic performance is poor.(7) The four types of bidirectional pumping stations both have its own advantages and disadvantages, so, the most reasonable type of pumping station should be chosen according to the actual conditions of the bidirectional pumping station which is to be built. The entirely tubular pump without driving device has a simple structure, high reliability, low working noise, and convenient installation, etc. With the further study and more application of entirely tubular pumps, the development of our technology and the improvement of manufacturing level, it is expected that the entirely tubular pump will have a wide application prospect.
