With the increasing crisis of worldwide fossil fuel energy, the utilization of solar energy has been attached greater importance. Recent rapid development of electricity generation by solar thermal energy puts more weights on the research of stirling engine. The research of stirling energy in our country, however, was started relatively late, and is comparatively less developed. The exploration in stirling engine, thus, will be of more significance in the field of solar thermal energy utilization in the future decades. Based on the basic theory, this essay includes the preliminary research of stirling engine in a experimental way, the completion and the success operation of the model of stirling engine, and the analysis of the impacts to stirling engine caused by different structural parameters through experimental tests. The key points of this essay will be illustrated as follows:Firstly, the cycle process of stirling engine, the derivation of cycling work formula on the basis of the Schmitt ideal model, and the attainment of the variable curves of the influences to the cycling work of stirling engine caused by the different structural parameters will be introduced.Secondly, In accordance with Schmitt theory, two r-type stirling engine models have been designed and manufactured, and modified and perfected respectively. Then, these two models operate well. Meanwhile, the designing and making of A-type and B-type stirling engines were on the track. The key factors that determine the operation of these two types stirling engines have been discovered by incessant modification and analysis.Lastly, The experiments on how structural parameters affect the performance of stirling engine were carried out on the basis of observation of r-type model stirling engine. The experiment results show that with the increase of input power, accordingly the revolution speed and the output power increase and the time of setting up and entering into the stable working condition will be shortened. As the phase angle, ranging from 60 degree to 105 degree, increases, revolution speed and the output power will increase at first and then decrease. The stirling engine obtains its best working condition with the fastest speed and the best output power, being at 80 degree phase angle. The system which was tailored for testing the power of stirling engine was established. The data of output power of the model stirling engine has been gained and the factors affecting the power have been analyzed.By successful design of stirling engine and its related experiment and research, the curve reflecting how different structural parameters affect the stirling engine operation has been acquired, which provides indispensable data for the future designers and lays the solid foundation n for the research and development of more powerful stirling engine.
