Automobile have occupied a unique position in our daily life since the first car was invented by Karl Friedrich Benz in 1883. In nowadays, almost every family has an own car. The VANETs(Vehicular Ad-hoc NETwork) are the collection of the vehicles equipped with the wireless communication device. The VANETs contribute to improving people’s interaction in cars by using the devices in cars and on roads. The VANETs can also provide multiple intelligent transportation applications such as multimedia entertainment, navigation and autopilot. However, the VANETs are still in the initial stage. Many researchers are involved in improving it. They propose many routing protocols basing on the basic feature of Ad Hoc and the unique characteristic of VANETs. Although those routing protocols satisfy the basic need in VANETs, they are not perfect. Some of them require an excellent network environment, and the others have some problem in accurate positioning. This thesis gives two new routing protocols in VANETs and they will solve the problems mentioned above by using the adaptive routing algorithm.Because the VANETs are based on MANETs(Mobile Ad-hoc NETworks, this thesis gives a brief introduction about MANETs first, which covers the basic concept of MANETs and the feature of P2 P. Then this thesis gives the introduction of the concept of VANETs, and describes the core idea and algorithm about some popular routing protocol such as DSR(Dynamic Source Routing)、GPSR(Greedy Perimeter Stateless Routing) and VADD(Vehicle-Assisted Data Delivery) etc. After explaining some shortages of those routing protocols giving above, we propose two new protocols called ABT and PVAT.This thesis focus on proposing two new protocols called ABT(Area Based Tracking) and PVAT(Parked Vehicle Assisted Tracking). This two routing protocols are based on VADD and we create two new tracking algorithms in these protocols. Having the ablity to detect the location of destination node adaptively, they can effectively delivery data package.The ABT routing protocol uses a new spread area which will estimate all the locations destination node may arrive at. And the PVAT routing protocol uses parked vehicles around road to track destination node. These two new protocols will both contribute to improve data delivery. This thesis details the core ideas of two new routing protocols, displays their overall design, and gives some basic algorithm in them. Then we build some simulations about cars and roads by VanetMobisim, and evaluate these protocols and some other regular protocols in them. After comparing the simulation result, we give the comprehensive evaluation about new protocols and the outlook for future work.
