Electrical Distribution Networks(EDN) is connected directly with customers. The capability and quality of the entire power system to the customers are reflected through it. According to statistics, 80% of the total customer interruptions resulted from EDN.Therefore, the reliability assessment of EDN has become a research focus. The main contents of this paper are as follows:The development of the study on EDN reliability assessment and its main index and formula are introduced.(2) A load flow algorithm for radical distribution power networks is introduced. The proposed algorithm is coded in MATLAB and verified by 5-node system and IEEE-33 bus radical network.(3) The basic principal of a section algorithm of reliability evaluation for medium voltage EDN is presented. Case studies show that the presented algorithm has an obvious advantage in saving time. The influence of components’ reliability parameters on a 7 load points system’s reliability indices is analyzed and envisaged ideas of improving the system’s reliability are proposed.A 10 kV practical EDN in Dongguan is evaluated. The load flow of the system is calculated using the introduced algorithm and the reliability indices of each feeder and the whole system are evaluated. Then, the influence of components’ reliability parameters on system reliability indices is analyzed. Based on sensitivity analysis, the parameters which have a greater influence can be found so that envisaged ideas of improving reliability of this system can be proposed.
