Distribution network fault location is an important element of the distribution automation, to improve the reliability of power supply. Broad distribution network distribution, numerous branch to bring some difficulty to the fault location, especially in single-phase to ground fault, it is difficult to achieve effective position. Therefore, the distribution network of automatic positioning of the equipment has important practical significance.This paper is based on the fault indicator of distribution network fault positioning. The fault indicator is a direct distribution lines indicating device, usually including the current and voltage detection, fault identification, fault indication drive fault status indication and signal output and automatic delayed reset control part. Installation of fault indicators in the modes in the distribution lines branch point and the user into the line, etc., on the distribution line fault indicator, by the power of maintenance personnel to the scene observed along the movement of the fault indicator the direction of line inspection, to determine the fault outlet, the fault segments, fault branch and fault location, and use of column switching equipment to artificially isolate the fault section, to restore the normal section of the power supply. It applies to short-circuit fault indication. For single-phase ground fault requires the use of the branch detector to locate the fault point real-time detection of zero sequence current or power flow, which is based on the magnetic field generated by measuring zero-sequence current fault detection. It is suitable for locating ground faults.In this paper, the fault indicator of the distribution network line fault location system hardware and software to achieve a more in-depth study focused on the design of hardware systems and software programming solutions. Positioning to set the hardware design choice, weigh the product features and the reliability of the equipment, we have adopted PIC18F4420 as a host processor, the TC35 i sent as a GSM module. We have designed a complete hardware system, and each hardware module in a more detailed design. In software design, location-based software solution for programming and flow charts. This fault location system has a given segment is accurate, easy to operate and adaptable features.
