With the rapid development of computer skills, the technology of Modeling and Simulation(M&S) has been developed. However, due to the restriction of various conditions during the process of modeling, the information we get may be incomplete which may limit the accuracy of the model. If the model’s accuracy is out of our demand, it will be meaningless, so researchers become more and more concerned about whether the model we built can represent the real system response truly. Model validation is a key way to guarantee the accuracy of the model and it can determine the degree of precision of the model representing the real system response, so it has a very important practical significance to do the research of model validation. In this paper, we dedicate to theoretical research based on the existing difficulties in validation work and propose the method of reliability-based concurrent design optimization and validation with sensitive validation parameters. Considering of time-varying information, we research on model validation metric and propose the method of model validation metric and model optimization based on time-varying information. In order to test the method we proposed, we also apply these methods to the design of spacecraft typical agency—harmonic gear reducer. The specific research work can be summarized as follows:(1) Briefly introduce the current commonly used model validation methods, and study the method of concurrent design optimization and calibration-based validation.After solving the drawbacks of existing method, a new method combining with sensitivity analysis and reliability is proposed and it is named reliability-based concurrent design optimization and validation with sensitive validation parameters.(2) Research on the composition structure, working principle, transmission characteristics of the application object—harmonic gear reducer, and establish the simulation model of the fatigue strength and the optimization model of flexible wheel respectively. Apply our proposed method to the design of harmonic gear reducer to test it and get the optimization results and the validated model.(3) In order to study the influence of time-varying information, this paper continues to research on model validation metric. Considering about the drawbacks in computation and correlation respectively, this paper improves the original metric usingCopula functions and propose the method of model validation metric and model optimization based on time-varying information. Apply the proposed method to the simulation model of the transmission efficiency of a harmonic reducer to test it.
