In the future with the communication requirement in airborne equipments and sensor data processing, the bandwidth of airborne network is required to reach 10 Gbps, the amount of data processing will be more than 4 trillion bytes. However, the existing fiber channel, full-duplex switched Ethernet can’t meet the rapid increase of demand for bandwidth multiple businesses transmissing simultaneously and requirements of network scalability at the same time. The avionics optical network based on WDM has been become the first target of future airborne network technology due to its characteristics of high capacity, data protocol transparency, good scalability and ability to reduce system size, weight and power consumption.Since the environment temperature of the avionics has a temperature range of 140 degrees(- 40 ℃ to 100 ℃), the working wavelength easily drifts. In order to avoid the drift of working wavelength, generally a large wavelength interval is required to eliminate crosstalk between wavelengths. For communication spectrum with a fixed width, the number of usable wavelength is small, thus it is difficult to meet the need of full connection and interconnection of hundreds of nodes. So according to the SAE WDM LAN standards, avionics network based on WDM is divided into optical backbone network and optical access network, in the optical backbone network, wavelength routing and switching technology is adopted to improve the network connection, assign wavelengths between optical access networks instead of terminal nodes, so that the number of used wavelengths is reduced, which facilitates the configuration and management between wavelength channels.On this basis, three-level modeling mechanism has been adopted on the OPNET simulation platform in this thesis, the process model, node model and network model of each node in the optical backbone network and access network are set up respectively. Through the configuration of the network environment and the settings of simulation parameters, throughput and network time delay are chosen as the statistics, finally according to the result of the simulation output, network performance analysis and the evaluation index, it is verified that the network has advantages of high bandwidth, low latency and good extensibility.In order to verify the reasonability of the introduction of WDM and optical switching in the FC avionics optical network, a test platform has been set up and the actual test scheme has been proposed. Finally the performance improvement of avionics optical network using WDM technology and optical switching technology relative to the avionics single wavelength optical network is verified. And the transmission reliability of avionics optical network based on WDM is also verified.
