As the primary measure of attack and strategic deterrence, the design and defense technology of ballistic missiles have gradually become the hot topic for the researches of expert groups in countries. Due to the poor condition、security and high cost, ballistic missile experiments are difficult to be conducted under real operations and also difficult to assess the performance of the systems. However, System Simulation can effectively solve this problem. Because of its efficiency, verisimilitude, low cost and flexibility, it has developed into an important mean of technical researches, system development and performance evaluations.As a vital component of System Simulation Technology, Visual Simulation carries out scene reconstruction for simulation objects and their action procedures through modeling simulation objects, physical structures and surrounding environment, along with visual rendering techniques. It provides users an immersive feeling. The Visual Simulation for offense-defense courses of ballistic missiles conducts 3D modeling aiming to the targets and attack-defense environment of ballistic missiles and detailed analysis of ballistics missiles’ macro and micro motions. Visual Simulation presents verisimilar offense-defense courses with visual rendering techniques. Relevant researching efforts provides technical supports in developing military equipment, evaluating operational results and simulating battles and trainings, which plays valuable and significant roles in practical applications.Aiming to the technical problems faced during visual simulating of the Ballistic Missiles’ offense-defense courses, this article has conducted researches including process analysis, modeling analysis and simulating object analysis. Accomplished research contents are as follows:1. Simulating Object Analysis.Taking “Agni-3” ballistic missile and SM-3 interceptor missiles as simulating objects, this article studies the offense-defense courses of typical ballistic missiles, which includes various simulating objects’ structure parameter, characteristic parameter of macro and micro motions, penetration measures and intercepting methods, etc.2. Software Development Based on Satellite Tool Kit(hereinafter referred to as STK) System. This article introduced basic functions of STK package and its capability of visual simulation. The research in this article also improved STK package’s main functions through a second development.3. Structure Design of Simulation System. Structure Design of Visual Simulation System consists of data input module, management control module, calculation module, data output and display module. After accomplishing the structure design, the research has further realized each functional module.4. Realization and Test of Simulation System. Based on STK platform, the research has realized the simulation of missiles’ offense-defense courses with consequences derived and the management of simulation process. In addition, according to users’ needs, data can be modified to obtain different testing results for the purposes of researches.
