Nowadays,with the constant development of intelligent transportion,The Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS, in short) has been widely used in vehicle driving.It provide safety and convenient driving auxiliary functions for people.In addition, the intelligent handheld device has more and more popular,it’s hardware and software level is higher and higher,that have been able to meet the needs of complex computations.It will greatly improve the convenience of the ADAS and effectively save the hardware resources that if apply intelligent handheld device to the ADAS. Therefore, in this paper the author studied the application of intelligent handheld device in ADAS, and summarized the system structure of ADAS applications based on handheld terminal.at last designed and realized a ADAS prototype system based on Android system..In order to verify whether the computation capability of handheld terminal can meet the requirements of ADAS applications,the author studied and realized a Trafficlight Detection Algorithm, and transplanted algorithm into Android platform. In Trafficlight Detection Algorithm, Firstly, It use of the brightness and color feature of light emitting area to filter brightness and segment HSI color, And filter shape based on the shape of the light emitting area. Then, It use the external morphological characteristics to match external shape of traffic lights area, finally through to the multiframe statistical validation to get the final output. The experimental results show that the method can quickly and efficiently detect the traffic lights position and state.It lay a good foundation for the development of applications based on traffic signal detection.In order to explore the interaction mode of cooperative ADAS application and verify the support of network environment to data transmission,According to the actual need,author realized a After Image Display System in the prototype system.the system connect with Wifi network, and it be divided into analog car terminal and Android display terminal two parts. The analog car terminal achieved acquisition, encode and send real-time image. Android display terminal complete faraway image acquisition, display and connective configuration function. Test showed that the display terminal is able to timely and continuously play real-time image.That achieved the goal of low delay and high reliability.The prototype system verified that intelligent handheld device support for ADAS in computing capacity and interactive ability. That Illustrated the feasibility and practical value of the ADAS applications based on handheld terminal.
