With the rapid development of aviation technology and computer technology, the degree of integration for avionics system has increased, which, in turn, entails more demanding requirements for system test. Compared to manual testing, automatic test system has greater advantage on test coverage and test efficiency. However, it requires automatic test system to be more generic, more efficient, easier to operate for use case editing, and more scalable for software and hardware. Given these problems, this paper investigates the structure of automatic test system, and in particular the characteristics of method for testing integrated communication and navigation device. This paper also analyzes the testing process for different sensors, and abstracts out a generic automated testing methodology. Furthermore, we implemented an automatic test system that is able to adapt to different machine models. This test system has been tested and verified on XX aircraft identification integrated communication and navigation device, which shows it meets the test requirements.First of all, this paper introduces the shortcoming of traditional testing methods, which justifies the necessity of the automated testing. Then it gives a comprehensive introduction on the automatic test system in terms of the existing testing methods, testing techniques and the current status. Meanwhile, this paper analyzes the field of automatic testing. In terms of device measurement, this paper proposes a function-oriented encapsulation approach to invoking the device. Combined with virtual device technology, we realized the interchangeability for calling different devices. In terms of testing software, XML is treated as the software core. It defines the system project management language, the programming/execution language of test cases and the generating language of test report. By leveraging these XML languages, a generic test interface could be realized. Thus, based on different projects, software testing could be easily performed by configuring the testing items and porting test cases. This paper focuses on the XML definition language of interface control document. And then we implemented the bi-directional conversion between interface control documents and binary data streams, which decouples the cross-linking relationship between automatic test systems and the device under test. In addition, for automatic test efficiency and testing methods, we leverage both synchronous and asynchronous timing control models to achieve the automatic control and management of the testing process. In this paper, we take advantage of air bus adapter technology to decouple cross-linking relationship between automatic test system and the device under test. It gets rid of the difference that is caused by the test device using multiple avionic air buses, which, in turn, improves the portability of the software. Meanwhile, the function-oriented encapsulation approach proposed in this paper combines the advantages of two types of measurement methods: device-oriented and signal-oriented. It not only resolves the device interchangeability issues, but also avoids the incompatible problems resulting from different standards for describing complex signal. The fifth chapter implements automatic testing process for air traffic control answering function in comprehensive communication navigation identification devices. It then verifies this function of automatic test process in terms of aviatic 1553 B bus interface, instrument control, test case development and process management.
