The system of urban underground pipelines plays an important role in the development of city, which ensures the efficient and orderlyoperation of the society. But there are still some problems. On one hand, the growth of population and the rapid expansion of city bring more and more pressure to the system of urban underground pipelines. On the other hand, there is a lack of effective management means for the system of underground pipelines. Therefore, many accidents occur frequently, such as the explosion leaded by pipeline leakage, the destruction of the underground pipe network causedby the violent construction, the unreasonable plan because of the lack of information. These accidents will damage the safety of people’s lives and property and bring lots of hidden danger to the development of the society. The explosive growth of science has brought us a lot of useful new technologies, and augmented reality is one of them. After several years’development, augmented realityhas been used to service people’s life. The characteristic of augmented reality is the integration of virtuality and reality. This technology can add invisible information into the real world which will greatly expand the range of human perception. How to make good use of augmented reality technology to service people’s life has gradually become a research focus. So has the research on mobile terminals, which has become an important part in our life. Thanks to improvement of hardware, they become more and more powerful. Now they can complete a lot of hard work which was only accessible on PC in the past. And the mobile terminals have more enormous advantage in portability than PC. What’s more, they are simple and convenient to use, so people prefer to use them. Today, the number of mobile devices is far beyond that of PC. The great market of mobile device also contributed to the flourishing market of application software. The application of these software has been related to all aspects and done greatly facilitate people’s work, study and life.Based on the research of the existing pipeline management system, this paper advances the perspectiveexploration system for underground pipeline on mobile terminals which is a new solving scheme about problems on pipeline management. The system combines mobile GIS technology, augmented reality and the exchange technology between client and serverto form a set of methods on effective information management.Portability is a big advantage of this system. With the help of mobile GIS technology, users can use the system in any place and breakthrough the space limitation. In the aspect of information display, this system will not only show the data, but also render the image of pipeline in front of us. While relying on the database, the information is true and reliable. In the development process of this system, we focused on the three dimensional registration under outdoor scene. The work includes image feature extraction by ORB, feature point matching by KNN and acquisition of the object’s gesture by space coordinate transformation. We also studied the surface layer perspectivein order to simulate the effect of the ground after excavation. The System uses the OpenGL ES 2.0 to render the pipeline to simulate various types of textures and lighting effects. This system has two parts, the application on mobile device and the background server. The job of mobile device is to display the data and render the pipeline. The server is responsible for storage, analysis and management of the pipeline data. After development is completed, we asked many volunteers to test the system. According to the opinion, the system has been modified and the usability has been improved.
