Many Public Buildings which built between 50s to 60s at 20th century are urged for seismic reinforcement due to the long serving period and the low-level seismic design code. Most of these buildings are large story-height and nonuniform distribution of mass and stiffness moment frames of which the deformation are moment controlled under earthquake effect. Because of some storey cannot be reinforced due to the architecture function, traditional reinforcement could difficult to achieve the current specifications level. The existing building structure with energy dissipation reinforcement is one of the most crucial research directions of structural engineering in recent years. Installing the fluid viscous damper is an important means of energy dissipation reinforcement, however, the frame structures with fluid viscous damper is mainly studied for conventional frames. This paper concentrates on large story-height frame with adding the fluid viscous damper study and evaluates the reinforcement effect of energy dissipation, the main research contents include:1. Seismic response of large story-height frame adding fluid viscous damper, including displacement response and acceleration response2. Reinforcement effect of only parts of weak storey adding fluid viscous damper3. Large story-height frame model shaking table test study, comparing with and without damping model of structural seismic responseOn the basis of the experimental and theoretical research, the paper check analyze and evaluate the reinforcement effect of the practical engineering of only parts of storey adding fluid viscous damper. In addition, the paper also calculates and analyses two different energy dissipation reinforcing schemes and provide reference for similar projects in the future.
