According to the requirements of Chang’an Automobile, reinforced Nylon 6 composites specially for Automobile engine cover were developed, referencing the fabrication methodology of the same type of domestic and foreign products, by incorporation of inorganic minerals and glass fibers into sliced Nylon 6 matrix (YH400, relative viscosity,2.4-2.5) to improve the mechanical properties and dimensional stability and also decrease the deformation of products. In this content, the major functional additive agents were selected by single-factor parallel experiments.Results showed that the mechanical behavior of materials reaches the performance index when the weight ration of inorganic mineral to glass fibers is 1:2, in which BaSO4 yields the best mechanical performance with unfortunately excess specific gravity due to the higher density while wollastonite gives rise to the best melt fluidity.Maleic anhydride-grafted polyethylene with high-melt index is used as flexibilizer and also compatilizer. For antioxidants, compared to phenolic antioxidant (1098) and phosphorites (168 or 626), copper-based one (H3336) has better performance against aging, however, it reduced the melt fluidity to a large extent. Composite materials with additional lubricant (TAF) have highest high-melt index while montan wax achieved best stability among there lubricants.Additive masterbatch was produced by, in which low density polyethylene (LDPE) was chosen as carrier for inorganic minerals to improve their dispersion in Nylon 6 matrix, while LDPE has almost no negative effect on mechanical property, and just causes a slight decline in melt fluidity.At the later tests of the composites, the composites after three times molding-crush circles were added back to molding machines with 15%,30% and 45%, respectively. Data showed that even the proportion reaches 45%, the products meet the requirements of properties. So we recommend that molding factory could control the proportion to be within 30%. Moreover, the control proposes, FMEA etc. were given.
