In this people-oriented society, researchers pay more attention to the safety design of passenger cars, while overlook the trucks. But the facts turn out that incomplete security system on the truck have caused personal injury and property damage in a large number of traffic accidents, especially the accidents which involved dangerous goods road transport tankers, the serious traffic accident which happened in Yanan On August 26, 2012 was a painful lesson.In order to increase the safety of the dangerous goods road transport tankers, the structural defects of the existing domestic tankers are analyzed at first, and four tankers rear-end safety devices are proposed. Then, based on the economics and universal principle, one cushioning-device is chosen as the tankers rear-end safety device according to the transport properties of dangerous goods road transportation, at last the protective properties of the rear-end safety device is verified by crash tests.Compared with real vehicle test, finite element analysis method has time-saving and energy-saving advantages. Therefore, finite element method is used to test the protective properties of the tanker rear-end safety device. In the process of collision simulation, the geometry models of tanker, tractor and bus are first established by using CATIA software, and their finite element models are then established by using Hypermesh software, at last the collision models are solved by the non-linear explicit dynamic analysis software LS-DYNA.The impact simulation are carried out two times with different tanker rear-end safety structures, results show that the tanker rear safety system can absorb more collision energy after installing rear-end safety device, the tanker body and the bus perform better in energy absorption, acceleration, stress and strain during the collision process. Therefore, the designed tanker rear-end safety device can keep the tanker and the bus more safety than before.
