Beacause of excellent mechanical properties of rectangular concrete-filled steel tube and the characteristics of easy buckling of the rectangular steel tube, putting forward a new kind of rectangular concrete-filled steel tube arch rib stiffened with PBL, and using the finite element method, making a tried design research of this structure. The specific works and relative conclusions are mainly as follows:Firstly, the development, the research status quo and applications of the rectangular concrete-filled steel tube arch bridge are reviewed; discussing the related research of PBL shear connectors, and pointing out the shortages of the existing research, such as unclear requirements for the structure of PBL shear connectors in the existing specifications. the direction of the research are determined, and to provide reference for the research of ribs stiffened with PBL later.Secondly, to discusse the relevant specifications related to design requirements of rectangular concrete-filled steel tube arch ribs. the design calculation method of rectangle steel tube concrete arch bridges and ribs are summarized. Making a contrast among the calculation method of the finite element in the design, and giving suggestion of the use of different modeling methods.Thirdly, By analysising different of cross sections the superiority of rectangular cross section is determined. In the example of nan bridge, the design research of rectangular steel tube arch rib stiffened with PBL is carried out. Using midas civil to build the model, calculating the bearing capacity, the stress and deformation in the construction, and carring on the stability analysis. Using midas fea and ABAQUS respectively calculating the arch foot in the construction and 10 years later, the overall and local mechanical properties are understanded. Comparing to the original bridge arch rib in economical, proving that PBL is reliability, feasibility and superiority.Fourthly, the optimization analysis is made for the rectangular concrete-filled steel tube arch rib stiffened with PBL. Analysis the arch rib by using ABAQUS, putting forward the concept of the effective width of stiffener. The hole diameter of the PBL, the thickness, the height and the spacing of the stiffener are respectively discussed. It have significant reference for PBL related structural rules in the future. The spacing and thickness of transverse stiffener are analyzed, giving a optimized results of the arrangement of the across of arch ribs. Contrasting the mechanical characteristic of the arch rib after optimization with before, to show that the optimized arch rib has better mechanical performance and fuel economy.
