Developments of Rural roads in Xinjiang region lagged behind because of the influencing factors such as history, geographical position, economy and so on. In recent years, with the development of economy and society, the construction requirements of rural road increased continuously. However, the technical standards of rural road could not completely copy the ministerial standards as the climate, geographical environment, population and other comprehensive environmental factors of Xinjiang region were unique. Studying on the subgrade cross-section and pavement structure of the rural road and selecting the reasonable structure based on the actual situation had important significance on the construction of rural roads. In this paper, pavement structure and operation situation of typical roads in Xinjiang region were investigated comprehensively, the main problems existed in the construction of rural roads were indicated, and the reasonable subgrade cross-section and pavement structure that applied to the rural roads of Xinjiang region were put forward, which regulated the disordered state of the rural road construction in Xinjiang region effectively and provided a solid guarantee for the rapid development of rural roads. The main contents included following parts:(1)Different types of representative rural roads were screened and surveyed on field in Xinjiang. The subgrade cross-section type, pavement structure, traffic flow characteristic, using status and service level of representative rural roads were investigated comprehensivly. The main problems existed in rural roads were indicated. The type of subgrade cross-section and typical combination of pavement structure were selected, which could conform the rural roads in Xinjiang region.(2)The application status of subgrade cross-section type of rural roads was comprehensively analyzed. The main components of traffic flow in the Xinjiang region were determined and the rural roads of Xinjiang were classified reasonabled. The reference standards of subgrade cross-section towards different levels of rural roads were proposed based on the designation of subgrade cross section.(3)The application status of pavement structure in Xinjiang region was analyzed. The designation key-points of pavement structure were proposed, and the designation index and standards of surface structure were determined. The combination type and design parameters of typical surface structure for asphalt pavement which were suitable for rural roads in Xinjiang were established. The cost of rural roads with different grades based on the survey results were determined by calculating.
