As its weak capability of seismic resistance and disaster defending, adobe masonry buildings destroy heavily in earthquake. Therefore, studying the basic mechanics and seismic performance of traditional adobe masonry and reinforced adobe masonry buildings with ferrocement mortar. The results of the research can be used as the reference for the anti-seismic reinforcement and design optimization of adobe masonry buildings.Using a masonry homogenization method and secondary homogenization method to choose the representative volume element, combined with the numerical analysis software respectively establish adobe masonry, wall, building structure finite element model strengthened with ferrocement mortar and carried out numerical analysis, obtained the following results and conclusions.(1) The mechanical properties of adobe masonry strengthened with ferrocement mortar are obviously improved, the test values are consistent with numerical analysis values based on homogenization method. It verifies the effectiveness of adobe masonry strengthened with ferrocement mortar and the feasibility of homogenization method applied in adobe masonry.(2) Different reinforcement ratio has significant influence on the mechanical properties of adobe masonry, the mechanical properties of adobe masonry strengthened with wire mesh which the grid is 25 mm and 2mm diameter is the best. Then it presents the formula of axial compressive strength of traditional adobe masonry and reinforced adobe masonry.(3) Under the action of multifactor composite, the influence degree of every factor on seismic performance of reinforced wall is different; for reinforced wall without holes, vertical load makes greater contribution than the thickness of walls; and for reinforced wall with holes, it is the vertical load makes the greatest contributions to the reinforced wall; what’s more, size of holes even contributes much more than thickness of walls. Therefore, vertical load is the dominant factor which has effects on the two kinds of reinforced wall. And it should rationally design the vertical load of houses or buildings when reinforce, transform and design traditional adobe buildings.(4) The reinforced adobe buildings structure only damages slightly under small seismic action, and the structure of ductility and integrity are improved accordingly under middle seismic action. It verifies that this reinforced measure can effectively increases the stiffness of the structure and reduce the displacement response of structure under seismic action.
