Because of bending, shear and flexural strength of adobe materials are low, makingadobe building with congenital deficiencies in seismic capacity. Adobe building is generallyserious in the earthquake damage, seismic performance of poor performance. Study on themechanical properties of adobe masonry in urgent need to solve. Finite element method is aneffective method for structural performance analysis, which has been widely used in variousfields of civil engineering. Numerical analysis method can be used as important supplement ofthe experimental means, on the basis of the test, can replace part of the test. It can not onlysimplify the testing of scale, cost savings, but also get a lot of information which is difficult toget from tests.The article uses ANSYS finite element analysis software, based on masonry homogeni-zation technology RVE method, to do numerical analysis of mechanical properties of adobemasonry structure. Mainly carried out the following aspects:(1) Reviewed of the status of using adobe buildings and research of masonry structures;outlined masonry structures’ research directions in the future, including new materials, newtechnology and mechanical analysis; described the numerical analysis methods of masonry,focusing on the theory and research methods of homogenization of masonry used in thispaper.(2) On the basis of the existing masonry test results, considering the different forms ofmasonry building, the numerical analysis method, research the different methods of masonryeffect on the properties of masonry structure, and obtained equivalent yield failure surfaces ofdifferent forms unit volume under biaxial stress.(3) According to the results of ANSYS numerical analysis of elasticity, simplify the RVEthe internal stress distribution; and established RVE micro-mechanical analysis model, drewthe equivalent calculation method of masonry materials. Used linear superposition principle, assumed the composition material failure criterion of RVE, and obtained the equivalent yielddamage surfaces.(4) The RVE method was used in adobe masonry to get adobe masonry RVE equivalentmaterial properties. The RVE analysis results and discrete model results compared with adobemasonry test results, to verify the effectiveness of the RVE method, then, applied RVE toadobe masonry structure of static and dynamic analysis, to get basic mechanical performanceof adobe wall, such as cracking and failure modes, etc.
