There are many disease problems to be solved for highway construction in cold or colder regions of China western and northeast. Extruted ice for highway is one of the more serious disease. The disease has greatly negative impact on highway construction, operation, maintenance and it has been a serious threat to traffic safety. As the construction of the Tongchuan to Huangling highway is an example in this paper., the diseases causes and formation mechanism of extruted ice for highway is studied and effective control measures is put forward through field investigation, consulting data, numerical simulation, theoretical analysis and field trials.Relevant research data of extruded ice diseases for highway at home and abroad is detailed investigated and extruded ice diseases for highway in ShanBei region Site engineering is investigated. Existing control methods and measures of extruded Ice disease are summarized. the forming conditions and main influence factors of extruded ice diseases is further analyzed.Midas/GTS numerical simulation software is used for simulating slope seepage. The influence of water source and weak layer on formation and development ofextruded ice diseases for highway is analyzed. at the same time, engineering investigation is concluded that the weak layer is geological structure factors which inducing disease and abundant water is one of the essential conditions for the formation of disease.The formation mechanism of extruded ice diseases for highway is proposed based on the above project investigation and numerical simulation, and the formation the diseases causes and formation mechanism of extruted ice for highway is analized according to the two major aspects including water resource and the development location of disease.The specific diseases for the highway project from Tongchuan to Huangling is to be supported. According to formation and mechanism of extruded ice diseases, the of traditional control method, new combination and multi-outlet integrated control measures is put forward and a field experiment is conducted in relying on the project.
