Tribometer is necessary equipment to research material’s tribological performance. To satisfy laboratory evaluation of friction pair material tribology performance requirements under the simulated space environment, it implement friction test function under simulated space environment by combining simulating space environment technology and friction test technology. Using the modular design concept to design multifunction tribometer. By changing different attachment to achieve four kind of typical form of friction pair contact friction and wear test. The main research work is as follows:Using the modular design concept to design tribometer. Through the survey, established the contact form, movement way and test conditions. Building the product spectrum of tribometer by looking test conditions as longitudinal series, combining contact form and movement way as horizontal series. The general function of tribometer was established through black box method. General function was decomposed into the least function unite by analyzing and disassembling the function, and form the diagram of functional decomposition. Then proceeding functional partitioning with the method of cluster analysis, the tester was decomposed into driving part, rubbing part, simulating part, measurement and control part, support part. For rubbing part, deformation modules were established.According the requirements of the tester, it was proceeded to design the tester structural, include driving part, rubbing part, and measure and control part. Four deformation modules were designed according four contact form which include pin-on-disc(ball-on-disc), block-on-ring, ring-on-ring, and column-on-cylinder. Rubbing part consists of fixture system and loading system. The transmission interface was designed to satisfy friction test of four forms.Mechanical analysis was proceeded for the tester, include static and dynamic mechanical analysis. Owing to simulating environment include high and low temperature environment, the effect of temperature was considered in static mechanical analysis. The inherent frequencies of four contact form tester system were acquired through dynamic analysis.At last, the tester’s reliability was tested by experiment. It was acquired that the multifunction tribometer has preferably repeatability and comparability. So the tribometer meet design requirement.
