With development of road traffic and growth in the living standard, the requirements of people on performance of tires have become higher and higher. Rubber abrasion tester, widely used in rubber industry, is a device for testing wear resistance of automobile tires. At present, Akron rubber abrasion tester is the most commonly used rubber abrasion tester in rubber industry for its low price. However, it has the disadvantages of being unable to achieve high-temperature abrasion and abrasion under different speeds, unable to continuously apply load and unstable in loading, thus it cannot adapt to development of automobile tires increasingly.This paper conducts comprehensive improvement based on Akron rubber abrasion tester for laboratory use and develops a novel rubber abrasion tester. Firstly, the overall transmission scheme of the system is determined according to operation requirement of the abrasion tester, and then the specific model of AC servo motor is determined through relevant theoretical calculation. After that, theoretical calculation is conducted to motion and kinetic parameters of the machinery, so that specific size of the worm gear reducer is determined, and necessary intensity check is conducted.Overall structure of the novel rubber abrasion tester is designed by the advanced thre e-dimensional software Creo. By analyzing advantages and disadvantages of augmenting method of existing rubber abrasion testers, the idea of applying magnetic field force into r ubber abrasion tester is proposed, and an electromagnetic augmentor is designed. By stud ying the correlation between heating performance and actual tire of an existing high-temp erature rubber abrasion tester, the heating method with a hating ring inside the rubber wh eel is proposed, and a rubber wheel heating device is designed. A sample motor-driven an ti-sticking automatic dusting device is designed. A novel angle regulating structure for no vel rubber abrasion tester is designed referring to the angle regulating device of Akron ab rasion tester.Altium Designer is used in hardware design for rubber wheel heating control system and electromagnetic augmenting control system of the novel rubber abrasion tester. Meanwhile, software design is conducted for the rubber wheel heating control system and electromagnetic augmenting control system according to hardware system and functions to be achieved.At last, this paper briefly discusses general process of Ansys finite element analysis and basic principles of Ansys thermal analysis, statics analysis and kinetic analysis in the part of finite analysis. Temperature field analysis is conducted to the rubber wheel by Ansys. Dimensions of the rubber wheel are optimized according to the analysis results. Intensity of the worm-wheel shaft is analyzed also by Ansys, and then the analysis result is compared with the theoretical calculation. It verifies reliability of intensity of the worm-wheel shaft. Modal analysis is conducted to the worm-wheel shaft respectively under rigid restraint and elastic restraint by Ansys. Based on modal analysis result, the critical speed of rotation of the bearing is calculated to ensure that no resonance will be generated in operation of the worm-wheel shaft. Furthermore, harmonic response analysis is conducted to the reduction case by Ansys to ensure that no resonance will be generated in operation of the reduction case.
